HELLO AND WELCOME TO SEWING 4 SELF CARE!
My name is Corrine and this blog documents my journey of self-care through the medium of sewing. Along the way, I will be combining my love of sewing with my new found curiosity for all things crafting. Having rarely crafted in my adult years, now that I have two small children this has all changed. I have determined that it is time for me to ‘level up’ my sewing and crafting game. In January 2021, my husband gifted me a Cricut Maker for my birthday. It will appear in some of my projects that I create going forward.
If you are wondering how I got into sewing, it started from a really early age. Hand sewing and cross stitch were activities I enjoyed as a child. I watched my mother sew regularly, as she made various outfits for me. I never touched a sewing machine until my adulthood, which is when I believe my true passion for sewing was ignited. In 2016, I stumbled across machine sewing quite by accident. Having left a stressful job, and with a potential change in career on the horizon, I needed a way to channel the stress, frustration and uncertainty that I was feeling.
I searched online and found a beginners sewing class, where the end project was a cushion. During the class, all I could think about was the task at hand. My anxieties about different aspects of my life did not matter. I had not felt so relaxed in a very long time. As a bonus, I was really enjoying myself. I successfully completed the cushion and was amazed at my achievement (my first ever sewing project, which I still have to this day). Needless to say, after that first class, I was absolutely hooked!
Now, I am embarking on another adventure. In September 2021, I’ll be starting a BA (Hons) Costume Construction course that is run in conjunction with the Royal Opera House. It’s accredited by UAL and means I’ll be able to realise my dream of becoming a costumier.
Who knows where this might take me, but here is exactly where it begins…
